Is there any writer for the Sacramento Bee who has less regard for the poor and working people of the area and is more of a sycophant for the corporate and political class of Sacramento than Marcos Breton? He seems to devote most of his columns to singing the praises of area developers, defending Kevin Johnson’s corporate assault on the city at all costs, and slamming any person or group critical of the status quo. Among his recent greatest hits:
- Knocking a proposal from the city for a homeless camp as being a “handout” and advocating a private charity instead.
- Criticizing politicians and administrators hostile to the Occupy movement – for not being hostile enough.
- Using a supermarket’s funding neighborhood swimming pools as a chance to take a swipe at labor.
The online comment pages to news articles and columns are typically full of reactionary drivel, but Breton’s columns are a surprising exception. Many of the top comments to his articles are very critical of him and his views, in particular his continued support of Kevin Johnson and business interests and his hostility to labor. Yet the Bee (full of other pro-Johnson, pro-business writers) keeps him around.
